On the iconic street corner, Carlton Wine Room is part restaurant, part foodie institution. The small menu has been carefully selected, and whether you're wanting a boozy lunch, or a relaxed catch-up, this establishment caters for whatever the mood.
The current menu boasts a trottole pasta as a vegetarian main. The pasta is fresh and al donde. And the roasted red capsicum is blended into a sauce. The flavours are more-ish and complex, the textures pleasant, and the serving size adequate for lunch. M loves to opt for a half of the same pasta, and half calamari. She appreciates the half half option. She says the pasta is delicious with just the right amount of chili.
The potatoes are likewise vegetarian and crispy, salted and again more-ish. M loves potatoes and says these ones are outstanding.
Dessert is limited, but the chocolate is a pleasant finish to a meal. This is rich, cool and very satisfying. Unfortunately, I've not yet had a chance to explore the wines on offer. But as the name suggests, wine would be a highlight. Bookings recommended.
