• Bob's Your Uncle (Doncaster East)

Since 2016 Bob’s Your Uncle Cafe has been serving yummy food to Doncaster East locals. With a refreshed vibe and comprehensive menu, we were invited to try their vegetarian brunch dishes. It did not disappoint.

The smashed avo arrived with dill, strong and salty whipped fetta; soft warm avo; plentiful kale, halved cherry tomatoes; a scattering of quinoa; multigrain toast and a sweet balsamic beetroot dressing. It was a mound of goodness with everything you’d want for a healthy start to the day. This was our favourite dish, with the tangy sweet dressing and plenty of variety in the ingredients.

The passion fruit cured pumpkin salad was also mounded with fresh kale. The pumpkin was sweet and pickled with  a little crunch. The chickpeas had been slow roasted until they were nutty and crisp. The pumpkin hummus was more like a pumpkin mash. The flavours were pleasant. This dish had a lot going on, but it came together well. I loved the colours and the presentation of this one.

The pancakes were delicious, and definitely a dish to share. The pancake itself was dense by fluffy, more like a syrup cake, than a typical pancake. The sweet orange syrup with the berries, made this one a decadent treat. I loved the pistachio and pink chocolate rock with its sweet, nutty flavour.  I made the mistake of pouring too much of the orange syrup on this one. The pancake itself wasn’t too sweet, so the syrup should be added to your liking.

The kale smoothie was refreshing, more like a thick juice. Mark wasn’t a fan of this one as much, but loved the mango smoothie which was more like dessert, blended and creamy. We appreciated the cute, patterned paper straws.

Coffee was delicious, smooth and perfectly made with nice art and crema.

Bob’s Your Uncle are also fully licenced.

We enjoyed our spot outside. It was well-staffed on a morning that way busy, but not full. They have added fun details like doggy treats too. There are also tables inside, with most of the light coming in through the front windows.

Overall, brunch at Bob’s Your Uncle was a fun experience. The food is the calibre of a popular Melbourne eatery. Whilst the service was friendly like a local hangout.
