• Yassas (Ringwood)

Casual Greek food with a hint of island charm – what’s not to love? M and I were so happy to be out, catching up, and eating garlicky goodness from the country or the blue and white. Yassas menu is casual, but extensive, with souvas, lunch specials as well as a full suite of main course favourites.

Yassas offers casual Greek dining in Docklands, South Bank and Eastland. The Eastland location opens up onto the Town Square (the shopping centre’s tastefully laid out outdoor courtyard and garden area rimmed with restaurants. A bar crosses the front of the restaurant, with standard tables and chairs further along, and comfy booth seats opposite.

M and I have been here twice already. There are many choices for vegetarians, and so far, I have been impressed with the food.

The vegan moussaka is a treat, with a creamy top, layers of eggplant and roasted red capsicum. This is exceptionally creamy, especially given the absence of dairy.

The lunch specials are good value for money, ranging from $14 to $18. You can pick your filling, and even mix and match. This is the pita wrap with halloumi and falafels. Yum!

M Really liked the flavours of the falafel souva. But found it heavy overall. The combination of flavours was intense: onion, chips, lettuce, tomato and tzatziki.

Greek coffee is divine, frappe is even more special. A standard flat white is not their specialty, but still enjoyable.

Overall, I like the consistency of the food, the cleanliness, and that it is a pleasant spot to relax and talk.
