This uber cool café is quintessential Melbourne with fabulous coffee, full breakie and build-your-own bowls and broths. This place had been on my list for ages, and with easy take-away goodness, it was perfect for a lock down pick-me-up.

“Nice people, great coffee, food & cocktails” is their motto. And “nice people” struck me straight away. The staff were all just so friendly and happy! Even if they weren’t really happy, it  was as if they saw their jobs as bring people joy, and a smile through the eyes along with friendly banter is what we all need right now.

The bowls have so many choices of delicious goodness. I opted for the quinoa and freekeh base, with roast pumpkin and tamari seeds, crispy brussel sprouts with honey mustard, cashew nut bhuja with sesame, fried Szechuan tofu, and the miso mayo dressing. The brussel sprouts were a highlight. They were well cooked, but then crispened with the dressing like a glaze. I had heard the cashews were a must-try, but mis-ordered the bhuja cashews in place of the cashew dressing (the latter of which I am told is amazing, the former of which a tasty snack).

Coffee was delicious – specialty coffee from Wide Open Road Coffee Roasters.

I really loved the food and the atmosphere, even though I was only there for take-away, but I look forward to sitting down and trying out their full brunch menu soon. I’m most tempted by the crispy tofu burger with cabbage and jalapeno slaw, on teriyaki brioche; and the Autumn salad with pumpkin, cashew cream, spinach and almonds.

I found the bowls expensive given the serving sizes, but the food was extremely fresh and delicious.
