Padre is synonymous with coffee in Melbourne. And there is a reason. Padre has blended, roasted and supplied many of Melbourne’s best cafes with beans since 2007. Having tried many of their blends at other cafes I was excited to visit their Brunswick East café and roasting house.
As soon as you enter, you realise this place oozes coolness. They are serious about quality and passionate about the beans. On a quiet Sunday morning along this part of Lygon Street, Padre seems to be the only place that is buzzing (and not just from the caffeine).
The shop front is modern, spacious and calming with up-beat tunes and a grey/white palate. You will be served quickly, even when there is a queue and can relax at the comfy armchairs at the front, tables at the back, or opt for take-away.
The coffee comes in two size: small, large. The large is reminiscent of French style soup bowls for the drink. The flavours were those of dark berries, with a bit of froth on top and very strong. This coffee is seriously good.
Pastries and paninis are also on offer. But let’s be honest, that is not why we are here.
You can purchase beans, be educated on everything coffee, or just come to drink and enjoy.
