One thing I am loving about the Melbourne food scene right now is the growing popularity of veganism. When I first started my blog, I was inspired to write reviews on vegetarian food because there were simple none out there. A restaurant was reviewed as being good for vegetarians if they had at least one veggie dish on the menu (no mention of how that one dish tasted), and I hoped to inspire others that vegetarian food could and should be wholesome and delicious. Nine years on and now even restaurants specialising in meat, have at least a couple of really tasty vego items.
I am loving this choice. I am loving that Melbourne foodies are demanding it. And I am loving that I can now get a healthy bowl of pho without having to explain in detail that I don’t eat beef stock.
Love Pho on Swan Street only introduced vegan pho within the last couple of years. Packed with fresh veggies, a subtle soup and lots of tasty noodles it is a crave-worthy treat.
For lovers of spice, there is also a tasty tom yum noodle soup. And while there are stir-fried veggies and stir-fried noodles that can be made vegetarian too – my experience with these has been disappointing compared to the pho and tom yum.
The vibe here is super casual, super relaxed. You can pop in for a meal with friends, by yourself or stop for take-away. It is a fun place for older kids and cheap too.
