• Rosa Mexicano (Melbourne CBD)

On the corner of Degraves and Flinders Lane, Rosa Mexicano is popular with tourists and Melbourne locals alike.

The menu is brunch with a Mexican twists; full lunch with salads, burritos, tacos and mains; and a drinks list with everything from coffee to cocktails.

We’d been invited to try their vegetarian options for brunch.

Arriving mid-morning on a Friday, it was already busy. The pleasant weather brought everyone outside, and the whole of Degraves was abuzz.

The bruschetta was beautifully presented, and made especially for us to be vego. The eggs were perfectly poached atop refreshing avo, basil and thinly sliced onion with a green dressing.

The veggie scramble looked and tasted yum: a mix of mushroom, capsicum, baby spinach, caramelised onion, and herbs folded into creamy scrambled eggs.

The chef prepared the goats’ cheese omelette with fresh tomato, basil, chili and soft salty goats’ cheese. Mark really liked the texture of the omelette, and that it was not over-cooked. I enjoyed the flavours and presentation of this one with the pretty flowers and salty cheese against the eggs. Fresh tomatoes and wilted spinach balanced the dish, with a hint of sweetness from the balsamic glaze.

With their extensive menu, big servings and this popular location, Rosa Mexicano is definitely one to try. They also have locations in South Melbourne, Burwood, Williamstown and in Watergardens.
