• Pizza Espresso (Lower Templestowe)

Pizza Espresso used to be a favourite. My friend from uni and I would go there almost weekly, and nearly always order the eggplant parmigiana pizza. Almost ten years on, that pizza is no longer on the menu, but the restaurant is still going strong and serving delicious wood-fired pizzas.

The 1989 is perfect for any pizza-craving vegetarian. With roasted eggplant, zucchini and red capsicum it is a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach. Olives, fresh ricotta and a tomato base top off the toppings.

The Zucca is a classic: thinly sliced pumpkin, leek and taleggio. This pizza equals happiness.

These guys were doing Nutella calzone before they were trendy. And they’re still rocking this dessert. Who can resist hot Nutella wrapped in a pizza base??

The sticky date pizza is newer, a small pizza topped with caramel sauce and vanilla ice-cream.

It’s not just the memories and friendship tradition that I love about this place. The food is good. Darn good.
