• Wokks (Carlton)

Wokks motto is simple: to make popular South East Asian favourites at reasonable prices. With roots in Thai, Malaysian, Singaporean and Indonesian street food, this is where the nearby uni students go when they are missing home.

M is a fan of Wokks, and she had been wanting us to lunch here together for a while. Entering the large room, I was impressed that it was big enough to get a table, and quiet enough to hear each other while not having everyone eavesdrop in silence.

The menu includes many vego options: noodles, curries, starters… they also have tea Tarik – yum.

My Pad CU (spelt for easy pronunciation) was tasty. Wok fried thick rice noodles, with carrots, broccoli and cabbage.

M ordered curry. The sauce was rich without being too creamy, and it was packed with fresh veggies and tofu.

The meals are very well priced. Lunch specials are only $9.90 and discounted student meals are available all through the day. They also specialise in catering and M recently employed Wokks for an event, which went very smoothly.

I’d recommend it for students especially – it is so close to both RMIT and Melbourne. The meals are filling, fresh, fast and cheap.
