I love Greek doughnuts, and what an idea to have a store especially dedicated to these tasty treats. Lukumades opened in Windsor earlier in the year. With a suite of toppings and the doughnuts made fresh, I was eager to check it out. We had been invited to two packs and drinks.
First, what to choose? There are so many fun flavour combinations, that the first ten minutes in the shop was spent tossing up between the Bounty Hunter and Oreo Balls. Most flavours are drenched with melted chocolate. More traditional flavours include cinnamon and honey, and jam. There is also a selection of sweet drinks including iced chai and milkshakes – both of which we ordered.
After much deliberation, we also opted for the Oreo Ball and Snickers.
There is place to sit while you watch the doughnuts being fried fresh. The set up is clean and modern. I was also surprised at how many orders were being made to deliver – the perfect afternoon treat for those needing a 3pm pick-me-up in the office.
The iced chai was delicious, sweet and pretty with a white choc drizzle and spicy. The vanilla milkshake was also lovely and frothy and thankfully not too sweet.
The doughnuts were delicious. The edges were crisp, the insides springy, yeasty and light - such a beautiful texture to the dough.
All the ice-cream is from Messina, just across the road. The Oreo ice-cream was vey sweet with the melted white chocolate hardening against it.
I really enjoyed the Snickers with crunchy freshly roasted peanuts and melted milk chocolate. This one also had caramel drizzled over the top, but this was lost with the other ingredients – no extra sweetness was needed!
At $12 for ten doughnuts, these treats are good value and enough to be shared between two…if you can agree on a flavour.
