There is a plethora of good restaurants in Hawthorn, some fine,
most cheap and cheerful with good and authentic cuisine. Dosa Café is on the
latter end of the spectrum.
Eating late, we were the only ones in this casual café, but
others arrived even later so that by 9pm, the tables were busy and the waitress
was rushing between each to have us all efficiently served.
There are many vegetarian options. The dosas are authentic
with light crispy pancakes, and spicy fillings.
The saag paneer curry – a usual favourite for me – never looks
attractive, but is well spiced and fills that spinach craving in a flavoursome
way.
This restaurant is frequented by Indian students, giving a
hint as to its calibre.
While not as good as other Indian restaurants in inner
Melbourne, Dosa Café still serves up a reliably tasty, vegetarian meal.
