• Rustica (Melbourne Central)

Rustica has built such a name for itself in recent years. Now with several cafes around Melbourne, the bakery, specialising in sourdough, has risen to a popular spot for brunch and decadent cakes.

I recently tried its Melbourne Central location. On the top floor of the shopping centre, this one is easy to miss – unless you are on the top floor then the music pumping is un-missable. The shop is set up with the cakes along one side, and tables at the back. The vibe is big, but if you are wanting a more relaxing atmosphere, opt for a seat out the front in the middle of the top-level shops.

There are cakes, croissants, filled croissant and savouries.

This sandwich was totally mouth-watering. The sourdough seeded bread was toasted and filled with cauliflower, baby spinach and toasted haloumi. This is the type of sandwich I would crave and dream about.

The filled croissants are expensive, making them a luxurious treat. The peanut chocolate was indulgent, and the croissant could have been lighter and more buttery, but the flavours were still delicious.

I’ve also tried the Hawthorn location, which is very popular for full brunches.
