Pho Anh has just opened at the top end of Burke Road in Camberwell. I was invited to check it out and try the authentic Vietnamese menu.
As the name would have you thinking, this place specialises in Pho. The traditional rice noodle soup is so common in Melbourne, but only recently has it been easy to find vegetarian or vegan versions of the soup which is usually made with beef stock.
Pho Anh make their own stock, this is filled with aromatic spices and is far more interesting and tasty than your usual veggie stock cube replacement. This was filled with veggies: a variety of mushrooms, carrot, bok choy, baby corn and broccoli.
The pho servings are big. But it is so tasty, you will not want to stop.
There are a few other veggie options on the menu. Those wanting more could opt for spring rolls, rice paper rolls, dumplings, vermicelli, fried rice or salt and pepper Japanese soft tofu.
