• Cafe Remy (Kew)

There are many beautiful local cafes in Melbourne, and Café Remy in the neighbourhood of Kew is one of them. It’s modern but unassuming façade is enough to make you relax, and the dated pop songs are enough to make you lower your expectations. But overall it is a pleasant atmosphere with simple, tasty, healthy food; relaxed but smiling and professional staff; and great service for kids.

The interior is a converted house with several rooms opened into different dining areas. There is also a decked courtyard to the side. This place is popular with everyone in the area, ranging from business people drinking coffee over their business meetings, middle aged women stopping in the middle of their morning walks, and mums with young kids. The staff were extremely accommodating bringing high chairs and plastic cups. There is also space for prams in the courtyard and a range of toys to keep young ones entertained.

They are accommodating to vegetarians too, allowing you to swap ingredients out for vego ones. There are also some delicious salads on the menu including roasted pumpkin, a super food bowl, and quinoa salad.

The Remy breakfast is huge but yum. Vegos can swap out the bacon for avocado. The avo was ripe, green and fresh; thinly sliced and fanned. It came with potato rosti, tomato, mushroom, halloumi, egg and toast. The rosti was made with grated potato, pushed into a rectangle the fried. It was all very pleasant. Each item was made individually. It was a very big breakie.

Coffee was pretty. Smooth, malty, not strong or bitter but still good.

They also serve cocktails on Fridays and weekends.
