• Lui Bar (Melbourne)

We live in such a beautiful city. And Lui Bar makes you feel proud of it.

Set at the top of the Rialto (previously Melbourne’s tallest building), Lui Bar boasts views, as well as the haute of Melbourne’s cuisine with neighbouring restaurant, Vue de Monde.

Cocktails with local ingredients and flair

How to get there
The system to get in is somewhat weird, but somehow works. Upon arriving into the Rialto office building, you will be checked in and escorted to a waiting area at the back of the foyer. When your spot is ready, the concierge will escort you to the lift and order it up to level 55. You will be escorted when you arrive at the top, to a tall table where you can stand, order drinks, and see the view. If you are there early enough, or for long enough, you will be promoted to seats at the bar, and finally seats by the window. Whilst it feels like you are queuing for the next best thing your whole stay, the staff somehow have it all worked out – who is next in line – and you are never made to feel rushed, or squashed with the bar only full enough to still be comfortable.

What will you see?
The views are spectacular. Set right in the middle of the central business district, you can orientate yourself to our beautiful city with views right around and to the bay beyond. The viewing deck can be windy. It is a very popular spot to watch the sunset and see the lights turn on as dusk becomes night.

What you will have?
In typical Vue de Monde style, cocktails are made with local ingredients and include specials with unique flairs.

Seasonal cocktails (name dropping Victoria’s best) at the moment include a ‘Yarra Royal’ with Yarra Valley cherry, apple wood smoked ginger, Mildura orange, native pear, Hennessy Cognac, and sparkling wine – ooh, fancy. There is also a Wattle Alexander, that I loved even more than the Yarra Roayl, with macadamia milk, wattleseed, rum and lavender tea. How unique is that? Only in Melbourne. Only at Lui Bar. We also tried the White Goulburn Martini, made with white vermouth, Goulburn Valley pear, vodka, leatherwood honey and eucalyptus. This one was delicious.

Alongside seasonal cocktails, there are regular cocktails, fine wines, spirits and bar snack.

Is it worth it?
Whether you are living in Melbourne, or just here for a holiday, I would definitely recommend a visit to Lui bar. Try to get there early so that you can see the view and don’t have to queue. For an extra special night, stay for dinner at Vue de Monde.
