• Pizza and wine at Melt (Waymouth Street, Adelaide)

“Melt does the best pizza,” said my Adelaidean friend, luckily I like pizza for it was to be my second meal of it during my short stay in the westward city.

Melt is set up in a converted old building with dark floors and careful details.  A cool mural sweeps the right wall.  Fresh flowers sit on the window sill and bar in leafy, artistic arrangements.  The jug of tap water is filled with fresh mint.

The waitress with a caring demeanour and exotic accent, told us we had chosen well with the mushroom and potato pizzas.  We also had a glass each of alvarinho from Portugal, it was fresh, dry and complimented the food.

The pizza Funghi was very salty.  The base was super thin, as I am told all of the Melt bases are.  The porcini mushrooms were accompanied with fior di latte, thyme and parmesan.  An egg was cracked in the middle and fresh watercress heavily garnished the top.  The flavours were creative but more-ish.

The potato pizza was equally interesting, but I found myself drawn towards the mushroom one first.  Crush potato was beautifully crispy and had been flavoured with porcini, truffle oil, thyme and parsley.  The cheeses were taleggio and mozzarella.  Walnuts added a nice texture and flavour.

Melt is not traditional pizza.  I appreciated the varied flavours and the attention that had been put into the decor and service.  A table in the front window, with fresh air, a good friend, delicious food and decent wine, what could be better?
